Skirts for men.

Skirts for men.

Postby Shadow Dragon » Mon Feb 08, 2010 8:12 pm

The major fashion company H&M is going to have skirts designed for men in its spring collection.

http://www.nbcnewyork.com/blogs/the-thread/HM-Offers-Skirts-for-Men-This-Spring-73761552.html

Like the writer of that short article said, this isn't completely new except for the fact that they are by far the most mainstream company to attempt this. Hopefully it becomes a success.

Yay! I've known a few guys (none of them effeminate, at that) that wore long skirts. They looked awesome on them.

I knew I liked H&M for a reason.
I whole heartedly approve, and hope it goes well enough considering.

That's pretty cool. I don't seem them catching on exceptionally well, though.

From the comments- it's weird that the only serious negativity came from a woman. :?

I do like that someone commented on MtFs (although awkwardly and with misgendering) as an okay time for "men" to wear skirts. That's cool.

As long as they didn't call them kilts I'm happy. Kilts are for the Scots.

I really liked this comment:
Not so long ago boys grew up in dresses and skirts. Today we dividing sharply what men can wear, but we don't do it what women can wear. We call that equality!
Some days ago, and this trend is rising, students all over in USA try to go over gender bender roles in wearing opposite dressing styles. Principals ad school officials don't know how to react.
H&M saw the problem and is going to react like 4 or 5 years ago wen this company sold men's skirts. Some weeks later, and non of this skirts were in stock anymore. I am sure that H&M checked the market.

Check the internet and search "men's skirts" and you'll find millions of websites and blogs, and if you want to read it you'll see that there is a cry for more freedom in kind of dressing by men. They want to get out of their suit-pants stereotyped uniform into more male
comfortable clothes, the skirt, even we call this now "female" clothes which is wrong because in past times men wore it, and women dresses. I personally call that DEMAND!
And what is wrong with skirts for men? Nothing! Nobody can find one single, of course serious, reason on earth why men should not wear a skirt instead a pair of pants.
Men do not have the courage to wear differently, but why? Think about - I know the answer.

I will be more thrilled when I see a man in real life wearing one.

The lines of gender identified clothing are slowly starting to fade, which is more than I could have ever hoped for.
Maybe I'll have a look at the local H&M if they actually have one of these for sale. I'm really looking forward for this to catch on with other brands. :D

If you browse through other sites that make note of this, you can see that comments range from mature ("skirts were worn by men throughout the past; nothing new") to downright homophobic ("the homos are taking over!"). Interesting range. Also, apparently kilts are extremely popular in Seattle. Hmm.

What is H&M? I don't think I've ever seen one.

The last time I checked there were only 5 comments (NOT CHECKING AGAIN). 3 from epople with male names that were positive or neutral. 1 from a female name that was vehemently against this (why? Women get to wear pants, let the men wear skirts). And one from anonymous that was confusing as hell. "Skirts on men are bad! Unless they're women or transvestites! Then power to 'em!"

I read that comment as well and to me it seems to be suggestion that men in skirts are ridiculous, unless they are transvestites or MTF in which case they are already ridiculous so more power to them.

Can we claim "Ridiculous" as our "Fabulous"? It has a lovely ring to it, I think. :D

Definitely.
They're my favourite mainstream clothing store, and I hear some of the only designers that still create classy slacks for more hourglassed, smaller individuals.

Heh, same here! Though sometimes in summer I love ankle length peasant skirts. So pleasant feeling and great looking when it's flowing around my legs.
