Trans-Centric web comics?

Postby Sammicat » Mon Jul 09, 2012 12:20 am

SO, i've been on a web comic bing lately and have recently come across a few different web comics.
So far i Found
1. Venus Envy http://www.venusenvycomic.com (which has finally started updating again. it's about a highschool age transitioning MtF girl)
2. Khaos Komix http://www.khaoskomix.com/archive (Covers the whole LGB and T spectrum. Mainly about this college group of friends who all end up coming out. MtF and FtM characters as well.)
3. Grey Matters http://www.greymatters.comicgenesis.com/ (MtF stuff, general life)
4. Between The Lines http://www.betweenthelines.sosdg.org (about 2 young MtF girls dealing with a fucked up life. site is currently being updated)
5. Closet Space http://www.dolari.org

Wondering if there are any others out there, and also wanted to start a list.
I'm new to the whole modding thing, but i THINK if we get a good list going i can sticky it somewhere or something.

*Edit* Sorry about the totally Borked URLS for the others. Evidently i can only post one URL?

Here are a couple more I had in my bookmarks:

  • Transcendence - http://shudder.imgur.com/trancendence - A nice short thing about identity and the word transgender.
  • Trans Girl Diaries - http://transgirldiaries.com/
  • Trans-supportive Sea-Lion - http://transsupportivesealion.tumblr.com/ - A bunch of adorable sealion macros. From the site: "A meme for the friends, lovers, relatives, and anyone who is supportive of trans* folks :) There've been calls for 'girlfriend of trans*' or 'boyfriend of trans*' memes, so here's one for everyone!"
  • Hourou Musuko, or Wandering Son - http://www.amazon.com/Wandering-Son-Book-Shimura-Takako/dp/1606994166/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1342239529&sr=8-3&keywords=hourou+musuko - It's about a couple of transgender kids, and is pretty adorable. You can find it for free various places online, but it's always nice to support the author. ;) The story gets a bit slow, but I still really enjoy it.
  • Misfile - http://www.misfile.com/ - Due to a lazy, clumsy angel misplacing a couple of files in heaven, a guy named Ash suddenly wakes up as a girl and a girl named Emily wakes up to find that a year of her life has gone back one year. I'm a bit hesitant to include this one since Ash wasn't originally trans, but he is put in the position of a closeted transman here, with some notable exceptions due to the nature of the story. The gender-switch isn't really the point of the story either, though it's obviously an important point.

Note to others: If you check the "Do not automatically parse URLs" box when you're making a post, you can post multiple URLs.

I can't believe I skipped Hourou Musuko and Misfile (I'm current on both.)
Great great stories.

Great list thanks!

I upped the max url posting so you can do up to 10 a post.
It was originally dropped to reduce the S word.

[url=http://www.drunkduck.com/user/pinkbatmax/]PinkBatMax[url] has two awesome webcomics:
-The Princess, a really cute comic about a little trans girl
-Eves Apple, a more adult comic, rated T for Teen. It addresses a good bit of trans misogyny, and has suggestions of past violence/abuse that may come up, so be aware of that.

Of course it's short, there's barely 100 chapters of manga xD

Well, El Goonish Shive isn't necessarily trans-centric, but it's full of gendery bendery wibbly wobbly stuff and it's definitely very queer. And fun. It's a cool fantasy sci-fi comic about transformation and aliens and cute people, and has been going for a long time now so it tends to be a good read.

Sparkling Generation Valkyrie Yuuki is pretty cool too. I haven't kept up with it in a while, actually, because of how painfully slow the updates are, but it's a cute read and the artist has drawn a lot of other TG work too.

I will check out the ones you added already, but I know three more:

What's Normal Anyway? - http://whatsnormalanyway.net/?p=93 - "A webcomic about being trans male"

Rooster Tails - http://www.roostertailscomic.com/?p=45 - "Rooster Tails is a weekly autobio comic and pet project (to keep me out of trouble), exploring the life of a simple transguy transitioning in New Zealand. It’s written by me! (Sam). A geeky, chubby transguy who spends too much time on the internet, messing about, and reading comics. It’s a way to pass the time while I try and get hairier…. (that sounded way more weird than I intended it to, sorry.) And it also quite often features Joe (my gentleman companion), who is an incredibly smart, verbose (articulate, is perhaps I nicer word) trans/political/feminist theory nerd. He also seems to be reading a lot of dragon fiction lately."

nhs, ftm - http://nhsftm.thecomicseries.com/comics/1/ - "A Female to Male transistion on the National Health Service. A mirthfull account of the Bizarre waiting game that makes up a Transexuals journey on the NHS in England, without cheating and taking shortcuts by going Private." (seems to be on hiatus since June :( )
