How'd you choose your username?

How'd you choose your username?

Postby ninurta » Sun Oct 25, 2009 7:30 pm

Just curious, what made you pic the username you chose for yourself?

Me? Yeah I love sumerian mythology, but that's not the whole story. To be honest, it's partly because he is a powerful sumerian deity but also because of the fact that he is one of a few deities that have the wrong gender in their name, not because of a scribal error either.

I am not transender, I am androgynous, so why not name my username after something androgynous? I thought maybe Inanna? But I am biologically male, though she has a masculine name, it wouldn't fit. So I thought Ningishzida, but I wasn't sure if it was the prefix nin- or not in his name. So i chose ninurta, but it was on a different site (politicsforum) that I chose it. Nin- means lady, and the irony that the god is very masculine (a war deity as well as god of intelligence and agriculture), made me choose Ninurta. Lady Urta is my name on here now too

Vampyre is an older variant of vampire, derived from the French vampyr. It's also the variation of choice for Living Vampyres.

Smiles because I'm generally a very happy goth, and also because the smile would be a dead give away for a vampyre. I'm pretty open about being a vamp, so vampyre_smiles.

Therem Harth rem ir Estraven is a character from an Ursula Le Guin novel, The Left Hand of Darkness. "He", being a resident of the world of Gethen, is hermaphroditic and by default androgynous, and at certain times will change both gender and physical sex, depending on who is around to affect the transition...

Mine is a reference to my favourite manga, though the reference is long forgotten. But "Zainin" (罪人) is Japanese for "criminal".

I chose Allosaurus because I didn't have the heart to ask you to use Mamenchisaurus in place of pronouns. :P

(The 2 is there because I am apparently incapable of following registration directions.)

I orginally went with Shadow Dragon when I joined a writing forum, and it kinda stuck. So now I use it on morst forums and on my myspace. As for why I picked it; I like dragons and it was sort of spur of the moment decision.

My first name plus Hitchhiker's referance (Alex instead of Wonko you see). Plus I do consider myself a very sane person. Oh god the rats! Grapefruit!

Started with Schroedinger's Cat.

Thought kitty sounded cuter.

Then realized people would think I was a blatant Hellsing fangirl and not referring to quantum mechanics

So I threw in the Heisenberg Uncertainty Theory and got UncertainKitten.

I think you're username is pretty awesome :)
I don't like the suggestion that I'm somehow less of a person, just because I don't want to do what everyone else does.

I think you're pretty epic just for realizing that an umlaut isn't an optional decoration.

Wow Kitten, you put a lot of thought into it.

UncertainKitten wrote:Then realized people would think I was a blatant Hellsing fangirl and not referring to quantum mechanics.

They may have just thought you were a Hellsing (which is an amazing anime by the way) and a physics fangirl. I can see it now, next to your Alucard poster is a poster of Newton with a heart drawn around it. :P

I just learned that nin- does mean lady, but it also means lord. It is a gender neutral prefix for names. I still like the name, its gender neutral but also sounds awesome.

After reading all those posts, my own forum name seems pretty boring. But from my own point of view, it's perfect for me. I think it is pretty self explanatory, so there is nothing really worth adding.

Peace.

Well, when I joined I was trying to be male so I was trying to find a male name, at the time I thought "Ryan" was it. Turned out I was wrong, long story, but since I was using the nickname 'Ryles' online it just sort of worked. I still like it well enough, so I haven't felt the need to change it.

I think it's a reference to how some people would just drop the umlaut - like with "uber".
