Show Yourself!

Show Yourself!

Postby Wesley_Lexi » Wed Jan 23, 2008 4:21 pm

This is a common thread on forums, so I thought I'd put it up. This is entirely optional, but if you want, post a picture of yourself.

Image

This pic is the newest I have... And it's 2 years old... -.-

I was 14 here. Not too terribly off though. Just a little taller and a little more defined features.

I would love to post like a billion pictures of myself. I'll edit and remove some of these if it is too cumbersome.

You look somewhat familiar... The chances are slim, but where do you live?

Here is one of me from this summer with shorter hair...

er, hold on, I'll stick it in my gallery while I figure out this image in post thing...

lessee if this works:

No. What do I put in the "| =left/right" thing. Then again, this may not be something I can post as a pic, as the URL is in my gallery (I have no other photos of me online).

Awesome shirt, Wes!

Rilian reminds me of this one short-haired "actress" whose name I cannot remember in the third pic, that may be where you saw him.

People tend to assume that I am really 'dressed' in this photo, though really, I'm usually dressed pretty much the same, just with a black waistcoat and a grey shirt and often without the tie.

Why the IMG tag doesn't work if referencing one's WiG gallery is a mystery to me.

Doc feels steampunk.

Not sure if that is accurate, but that's what's in my head.

In general, I don't read fiction. I do recollect 100,000 Leagues Under the Sea from childhood and I know what 'Girl Genius' is cause a friend of mine likes it. But actually, until somebody showed me this thing http://www.datamancer.net/steampunklapt ... laptop.htm the other night, I didn't know I was 'steampunk.' I guess I'm down with being 'steampunk,' I've got the urge to learn to play the theremin.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't relate steampunk with fiction. I could be the only one O_o

More of a combination of thought processes, ideals, and concepts. Combining technology with Victorian age concepts, both in thought and in style.

I associate the term with role-playing games and fiction that are attempts to emulate Jules Verne's fiction. With steam-powered spaceships and stuff. I didn't know it had become a 'look' or subculture-movement or whatever it actually is. Appearantly it's kinda like being goth, but with science-and-technology geekery instead of occult-and-vampire geekery?

I'm not sure I would put steampunk under goth, but perhaps cyberpunk. More emphasis on the technology and what you're mixing it with than the other way around. But yes, there is a steampunk movement and style, but it's mostly underground.

Basically the way it works in my head is that you have cyberpunk, rivit, steampunk, and cybergoth, which have an emphasis on technology and everything else second to that or a mix with it.

I meant 'like goth' as in 'a little subculturey style thing, such as goth.'

Yeah, 'steampunk' as I thought of it until, uh, yesterday or the day before, was spoofs of 'cyberpunk' fiction where you imagine that HG Wells or Jules Verne were writing cyberpunk fiction. Which is much better than William Gibson, sure. :)

What's rivit?

Edited to add, Woah, there is a forum of people talking about how to dress similarly to myself, and calling each other 'old bean.' This is hilarious. It must mean something.

Rivit is short for rivithead or rivethead, depending on the spelling. It differs with whoever you ask. I use rivit, but eh. It's the more industrial subset where you toss in a lot of military style garb, in many cases authentic through thrift shops, army surplus stores, etc. They're like the more angry, scrappy, torn up street rat brother of the cyber culture. More often than not I'm classified as one, but I technically fall under all three depending on mood and mentality.

How on earth did you decide what pronoun to use? Did I say it somewhere? *forgets everything all the time*

random side-note: I don't use words like 'actress', ever. Except when it's in quotes.

Sorry! You said somewhere that you were male/ok with being in a female body. Quotes shall be added to the offending word.

Noo. I like using masculine words. I was just wondering how you knew.

Edit: Pfft. Complete misunderstanding. I have no problem with you refering to someone ELSE as an 'actress'. But I never use that word in my own normal way of talking.
