I have a question about name changes and gender changes...

Last time I checked, in my area you get your gender legally changed once you have genital surgery. My current situation is that I'm an out FTM, I'm on hormones, and I'm going to legally change my name very soon. However, I'm not sure what to put in the the sex/gender: Male/Female section on forms. I also don't know what to put in the 'title: 'Mr/Mrs/Ms' section on forms. When I was pre-everything, my gender psych sent me a letter addressed to 'Mr [My preferred name], which makes me think I can just put in 'Mr' regardless of how far I've progressed in transition?

Depends on the form.

I put M and Mr. on them all anyway. They wouldn't let me have the M on my driver's license or passport, though. Everything else, nobody's said anything, and I am recorded as being Mr. Doc, a male.

In my state one gets the impression that a person needs genital surgery to have gender markers on ID changed, but when it comes down to it you just need a note from a doctor that says something along the lines of "I, Doctor So-and-So, have examined Werewolf and say he's male." There's a form for it at the DMV. It does not require the doctor to use any set of criteria to determine your gender. I will get that soon, when I can afford to get yet another new driver's license and passport. Lots, probably many years, before I get genital surgery. If I ever get genital surgery.

Don't worry about it. I've been running around with ID that shows me with a beard, but says I am female, for a little over a year now. Nobody notices. I keep expecting somebody to comment about it, and have my planned response, (something like "Yeah, it's a mistake, and I need a doctor's note for them to fix it, crazy, huh?") but nobody's said a word. Not even when they made copies of my ID for a job.

Thanks for your response, Doc, and I noticed you answered a previous question of mine, so thanks for being available.
That's really promising about getting the doctor's letter, I think I'll try that next time I see my doctor.

It's worked itself out, seemingly. When I filled out the detail change forms to get updated I.D/Membership cards, I put 'Male' in the gender area and 'Mr' in the title area. Because I had to state my previous name on these forms obviously my transgendered intentions were upfront, so I figured they'd know what I meant when I put 'Male' on there and they'd subsequently work out how to amend it accord to their respective gender policies anyway. My cards have come back with Mr even though for some of the businesses I know I'm still listed as a female in their records, at least until I have sex affirmation surgery. As 'Mr' is the only marker of gender on my cards anyway, it's worked out in my favour.
