Top surgery before or after T?

Postby pausg » Thu Mar 18, 2010 8:52 pm

Hi guys,

I was wondering if any of you knew if its possible to get top surgery before getting T, or if there is a "better" order to take those steps?

The thing is I will probably take T eventually, but I really cant wait to have top surgery...I feel like this is really the next step for me...

If you guys have any advice, or personal experience to share on the matter that would be great!

I had my top surgery before I started T. I knew I'd want T, but I was really freaked out about my chest and a lot of guys say that this gets worse after you start T. I'd also heard that it heals faster and cleaner if you're not on T. I am not sure if that's really true -- the surgeon said it didn't really make a difference, but a friend of mine said he'd read an article with the same surgeon saying it did. It wasn't the main point anyway, but I got through the surgery and early recovery well enough that the surgeon remarked on how nicely I'd 'breezed through' it.

All of the surgeons I've talked to said it's fine to not have started T when you get surgery. :)

The only reason it's "better" to do it after T is because T can decrease the size of your chest by redistributing fat and increases the muscle underneath it. But I don't think it makes a gigantic difference, and as Doc pointed out it may be beneficial in other ways not to start first. And you can always do push-ups.

I've also heard that you have to go off hormones before surgery... but I may have misheard that.

Thanks for the input guys!

In the same field, I've heard some surgeons do a liposuction on the typically female fat zones as the same time as top surgery. Has anyone heard about the advantages/drawbacks of doing so?

Ryles-
I had to go off T for 2 weeks before my surgery, and I do think most surgeons will ask that folks go off T prior to chest surgery. For me it wasn't a big deal, since I was only doing biweekly shots at that point.

I want to get top surgery before I start T as well. It's good to hear that I can!

I probably have almost no fat around that area anyway, so it's not like T will help much with that.
