Multiplicity and Drugs

Postby Ryles » Sat Sep 27, 2008 9:03 pm

Okay, so, I'm/we're toying with the idea of starting on anti-depressants (doctor suggested it, and I've been depressed for awhile and have tried therapy so I figure I'll bring it up to someone who knows how tot ell if I'd need them). But I'm nervous about taking drugs for much of anything, but here's a question: How would it effect the system? Does anyone know? Could it make communication harder? Easier? Is there anything to be aware of before starting it in terms of multiples? I'm pretty srue there isn't much scientific studies on this, so, yeah. :/

Elle was on anti depressants a few years ago. That was before I really talked to her, and before Andy was there at all. i dont think it'd do anything, but if glenn and layzar showed up as a *product* of your depression, then it might. idk. if they are there under other circumstances then probably nothing will change. And if anything does..you can always stop taking the meds right?

I really doubt that. People show up for whatever reason they want to, and I have a hard time believing they're a result of the depression. Thanks, though. ^^; You're right, I always can stop taking them.

We're not sure about antidepressants. We're on amitriptylin right now for insomnia and that hasn't impacted our ability to communicate. But it may differ with other types. I don't know how it would be impacted with an SSRI.

The one we're concerned about is antipsychotics. We may have to go on them and we have no idea how it will impact us as a system. If it makes communication and working together harder we may have to avoid them entirely.

Watch out for Abilify, Error. The side effects can be really scary if someone reacts badly. (It's an anti-psychotic.)

As to anti-depressants, just remember with most of them, it's crucial not to miss doses and when quitting to scale down slowly, as the withdraw can be gruesome. I have heard much the same about anti-psychotics.

Thank you for the warning. We just looked at the list of side effects and know that it wouldn't be a workable option for us. The last thing we need is further insomnia and fatigue and worse vision. Or seizures. ><

You're welcome. I just chimed in because I've had enough friends on meds over the years to have picked up this and that.

I know this is probably kind of pointless, but if someone here would like to be on anti depressants but has decided not to be due to side effects, it might be worth researching ways it is healthy for you to cause your body to dump seratonin, endorphins and adrenalin. I use intensive bursts of exercise to achieve this, but there are other ways (accupuncture, massage etc).

It all various. If I can't work out the correct hormonal/diet correlation, than I might end up having to take anti-depressives, just to counter the side effects of a medicine i can't live without. I'm willing to try a different medicine before going that route though, but the odds of my finding another one aren't that great. Anything that invokes stress or intense breathing is out of the question as an option for me. As is anything that involves natural sugars (ie eating fruit)

I'm not sure how it works in the average person, but I know I've been told to take vitamin B6 to help with the depression and rage caused by current medicine. I believe in my situation that its possible to only take the anti-depressives when the depression is present, and not take it during the rest of the month. However i never looked to deeply into the details as my goal is to use as little medicine as possible and I'm already taking 3 on a regular basis
