sarcasm? I'd have used one if I had the alt keys in front of me. However, I'm rather lazy.

I think it's a reference to how some people would just drop the umlaut - like with "uber".

Certainly not sarcasm. Most English-speaking people drop the umlaut- they write it as, say, "Schrodinger" instead of "Schrödinger". Putting an "e" after the vowel allows the omission of the umlaut though because it makes the same sound- ie, "Schroedinger", like how you wrote it.

As a German speaker it's one of my big pet peeves.

But you put the e after it, which has the same effect. Most English-speakers forget both.

For the past month or so, I've been feeling boy-ish. Even bordering on man-ish. It's something I don't do very often. I tend to stay in a very genderqueer space and don't too far towards patterns I can easily recognize in society. Even to the point of feeling the bit of queered up body dysphoria I get (which has no subsided, tg, because that's not fun). I connected really hardcore with the name Yitzhak about a month back. Yitzi is a nickname of that. I figured that I could try it out on here and see how it goes. It's strange, because I've used the same nickname for the past 5 years and the new one doesn't feel like "me" the way this one does. Like.. it's not something I've grown into and which has grown with me. But I still like it.

I must have skimmed. Spell check demanded I added it whenever I used it and eventually I got into the habit of putting the e in myself.

But now I see ^-^

I've been using this name for about ever. It has grown with me. The people closest to me use it. Somehow only those I want to use it do. Woot! There's no awkwardly explaining that this name is only for those who get me and my gender.

So it just made sense to use a name I see as my genderqueer alter-ego here. "Nome" is almost like a concept. It's like the concept of me being totally free of constraints. It's all my happy and best traits. I'm sure I can't live up to that, but that's the idea.

Very cool Nome. I do have a name which was initially intended to be entirely gender neutral and used to write fanfic under that name (I'm not giving that away) but it hasn't been that way for a while. After a number of years of flitting back and forward with different names, signing up to WIG forced me to be creative when I saw some of the excellent names on here, so it got me thinking about things that meant something. I wanted a female/feminine name that wasn't overly girly femme like Britney or something, but could be a bit androgynous. I nearly chose Ash, (except my birth name is one syllable and I'm sick of that, and I think there's an Ash on here anyway) then I nearly picked Avery, but I don't actually like it that much. Since I'm overly modest, tomboy and love to "hunt" things down I eventually settled on Artemis, which can be modified to Art, Arty, or even Missy (which I don't mind, even if it is girly girl). Vega too, was chosen for it's female and astronomical qualities and the connection to both Vincent Vega and Suzanne Vega.
I was really close to picking Genesis P Orridge's daughter's name, Genese, simply because it was so unique and beautiful, and carried the quality of "genesis" or new beginning. Or something.

Wowza! You thought a lot about your name. For me, I don't really have a choice. Haha. There are variations of "nome" I go with but I tried to join here with a different name and it just didn't fit. It felt really.. off. So I changed back to nome and am very happy for it. Also, it makes sense since that's the name I use on my blog. Continuity, y'all! :D

Sadstyle is the (very appropriate) title of my (arguably) favorite album. It's by a "band" called S, who is Jenn Ghetto, who is the person pictured in my avatar. I'm only mildly obsessed with her, I swear.

Nothing fancy here, when pulled apart, the name is really just derived from "a cat's worth".
Changed it a bit to make it into a surname for fictional/online character, Sonya Akhyraelle Khatsworth, whom I share first names with, as well as use the surname as my general account name. =)

I'm not sure why, but I had the chronicles of narnia on my mind (on may 6th 2004) and Rilian was a character who didn't get enough attention imo.

Randomly.

That's a standard thing to do when adopting foreign words. The umlaut doesn't exist in english. People name their kids Renée, too, but spell it Renee, because the accents just don't exist in english.
