I may be too skinny.. Help?

Postby Easy2remembername » Tue Sep 27, 2011 2:18 pm

Hi, I have been thinking about my body lately and wondering if I'm too too under weight..

First I have not started mtf hrt but I have low muscle. I am 6 foot tall and am 135 lbs.. Now the male average takes muscle into consideration and muscle is heavier then fat as well so given I am low muscle I could simply go by female scale. Now the average range is calculated by taking 100 lbs for 5 foot and adding 5 lbs for every inch witch would be 160 then a 10 percent variant being 144-186 lbs. 135 is 9 lbs lighter then the average range. Although I have a small frame, my wrist is 6 inches and for a 6 foot person that is a small frame by both male and female standards. I am just alittle worried I'm too small.. I eat right, I have a fast metabolism but I don't know... Btw I'm 19..

If you know anything that may help then post it, thanks.

Don't worry about it. You eat right and have a fast metabolism, then you're probably fine. People's bodies are different. :3

You're underweight but not by a lot. According to your numbers, you'd have a BMI of 18.3. It sounds like you might have hyperthyroidism, or at the very least an overactive thyroid. You might want to consult a doctor, but it doesn't sound like an emergency, provided you're not having health problems.

Like everyone else said, I doubt it's something to worry about. I'm 5'9"-10" or so, and 130lbs... and I'm only that heavy because of muscle. It's basically all lean and long, since I'm constantly stretching and active and what not, but still... when I was your age, about 5 years ago, I was the same height as now and 115-120 lbs, and it was good for me. Sure, you'll hear the "put on some meat" and anorexia comments, but as long as you're not having any health problems and eating right, it's all good.

The thing to keep in mind about BMIs is that they're really general. It doesn't take into consideration whether you have a small or large frame, or differentiate between adipose tissue and lean muscle mass.

Also, do keep in mind that when you start HRT (assuming you're planning on it, based on how you worded it), typically a m2f will experience redistribution of body fat and a slowed metabolism, among other things, so that may let you put on some weight more easily.

Oh! I have just realized this too!!! They didn't make a big deal about it though but that was a general Doctor

I am worried however that they will not allow me to begin HRT because Of my weight. That would suck so bad.

Also I was only eating like a third of my neccessary callories a day or something. I'm working on eating more though. I feel like it might have been almost an eating disorder

I guess that I am going to come across some cheap food soon though which really helps

how low do you have be to be turned down for HRT? Is there a certain number?
