Why not bring it up casually? If you don't make it into an entire ordeal, he may not either. Something simple like "sometimes I feel like a boy instead of a girl; how do you feel about that?" or whatever is most appropriate for your dynamic as a couple. Coming out in a very intense way (e.x. sitting him down, having a big, serious discussion, etc) might overwhelm/scare him. Telling him in a more diminutive way (but still a very clear and direct way) will give him some time to get used to it and will allow you to gauge his reaction. Then, later, you can have more of a chat, or talk to him about presenting as male when you feel like it or whatever it is you would like to do.
