I've used a thing called HeroMachine, but it's for superhero portraits and it's not that good. It's not very customizable either, you have only the choices they give you. That's all I got, though.

I usually use second life for avatar pictures. you can make the body look, dress, and pose how you want, and it's easy to take a screenshot and use it for an avatar.

z: We've been considering something like this, though instead, having someone draw a picture. Haven't really thought about going the tektek route, even if only to get a better idea of what is appealing to each of us. Perhaps it would be a good idea.

NS: We've decided to go ahead and come out in the open with it also. Using tektek was a nice idea that we've gone ahead and tried out also. :)
